Why I Don't Have Foreign Friends in Japan

I'm already 40 years old. I have some Japanese friends, but I don't have any foreign friends. Why is that?

Language Barriers

Of course, language is a problem. Many Japanese people, including myself, struggle to speak English. If I were able to speak English more naturally, it would certainly be easier to make foreign friends. Language limitations are the main reason.

Cultural Differences

The second reason is cultural differences, particularly humor. I don't really understand what makes them smile or laugh, and that's a significant challenge for me.

Fear

At the root of it all is fear. I'm naturally shy and hesitant to approach people. I often find comfort in Japanese anime, like Evangelion, which resonated with me during my teenage years. Overcoming this fear is something I'll keep working on.
